“Hurry up!” “Let’s go.” “I’m in a hurry.” “Why is he/she walking or driving so slowly?” “Get going, now.” “You don’t have time for that.”
Do any of those sound familiar? I might not say these out loud, but I think them all day long. I want to eliminate hurry from my life. I desire to breath in the peace and calm of slowing down.
Well, one of my favorite animals is the sloth. I think it’s cute in its slowness and lethargy. Also, I love cats and their ability to sleep for hours multiple times a day. Do I envy them or want to be a sloth or a cat? Not at all. More than anything I yearn to fulfill God’s purpose and be productive every day.
But slowing down? I could use a little of that.
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.” Psalm 37:7. That’s what I’m talking about. If I slow it down, I can pray longer, listen more, respond with wisdom not hyped energy.
Let me be “slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (James 1:19) Rest is promised in Jesus. I want to experience that more often. With my busyness, I need to make an effort to seek that rest as I eliminate hurry.
So, now I’m going for that second cup of tea and a little longer in my meditation. My hurried day can wait.
