What do you like in a Devotional Book?

Happy mid-July everyone! How is the summer treating you? I’m busy, busy getting ready for a vacation.
I need your opinion and advice. I’m going to write a devotional that is inspired by my Revolutionary Faith Series–10 devotions from each book.
I love devotionals. I’m usually reading two at a time. I’ve found a few devotionals that are companions to literature like Little Women, The Secret Garden, and Anne of Green Gables. Those perked my interests in doing one as a companion to my series.
My question: What do you like about the devotionals you read?
  1. Scripture (of course)
  2. quotes from novels, other books or people
  3. pictures
  4. application
  5. prayer
  6. questions
