I grew up in church and home with the Advent calendar and activities. As an adult I love the season of anticipation of Christ’s birth. Of course, I know the whole story and celebrate Easter every day as I live my life with Him at the center.
But there’s something about the candles, the hymns and carols, the greenery, the daily readings, and the preparation for Christmas that opens up a realm of praise and possibilities.
I start with the Advent wreath and candles on our dining room table where we light one each Sunday and read Scripture. Peace, Hope, Love, Joy, and the Christ candle.
I have two devotionals I’m reading this year: In the Manger by Max Lucado and Keeping Christmas (A Christmas Carol) by Allison Pittman. These focus my day as I tackle the busyness. I slow down to experience the Christ of Christmas.
Also, I love reading Christmas novels during the season. I’ve found a bumper crop this year. Here are three of them: Keeping Christmas Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, The Nutcracker, and Christmas in Mistletoe Square.
What do you do during the Advent Season?
I love watching Christmas movies with the family and reading Christmas books!! But most of all I love reading the birth and life of Christ and what He has done for us. Spending time with daughters and their spouses, but especially with our grandkids and great grandkids and creating memories with them for years to come. Life is so wonderful and even better at Christmas when we can all be together.
