Day of Small Things

“Who dares despise the day of small things?” Zech. 4:10a

This got me to thinking about what are small things. The world is full of the really large, overwhelming events and problems—wars, rumors of wars, national affairs, financial markets. Things that I cannot change today.

So, what are these small things? They make up most of our days. Life. The day to day. The mundane, unextraordinary. But are they really unextraordinary? Those are the days that I enjoy the most.

A day of:

  • Hot tea
  • My dog—walks, cuddles
  • Flowers and butterflies
  • Hugs
  • Comfort food
  • Books
  • Quiet
  • Meditation

What about you? Do you like the day of small things? Holding a baby, talking to a loved one, a candle scent…

What small things do you long for on these days of extreme things?

I enjoy the same things in your list. In addition, I enjoy a walk in the woods or just outside. Watching the hummingbirds is another small thing I enjoy.
