What’s in a Name?

by | Feb 13, 2025 | Uncategorized | 3 comments

I enjoy finding new names and wondering at the origin or the family connection. Also, I look for names for my characters. Some names I just like in general and use in my stories. Others I find in interesting places.

  • Family names—genealogical records
  • Tombstones—a rich resource
  • Class rolls—I’m a teacher. I have a gold mine of names
  • Historical fiction books

Let’s play a matching game with some of the names I found. How would you match the first name with a last name? There are no right answers.

A. Rose         ____Maxberry

B. Nole          ____Mathison

C. Colin          ____Walker

D. Rowan       ____Gillen

E. Raylea        ____McPherson

F. Gabe           ____Ferguson

G. Tegan         ____Parker

H. Morgan      _____Case

Would you choose Nole Ferguson or Nole Maxberry or another combination?

Have fun…create your own names with your lists.

Happy Naming!!!

    HAPPY EARLY VALENTINE’S DAY!!
Actually, I would only change the last names, and I would change Rose Walker & Colin Maxberry and leave the rest

Naming is a very fun activity- for books, stories, children.

Your book character names are always so fun!
