As I’m writing this, I am at a resort in The Woodlands outside of Houston. Since this is a business trip for my husband, I am alone in the mornings and loving it. I spent the morning by the lake reading an informative, exciting book–Loving Luther–by Allison Pittman about Katharina von Bora, charting her journey from 1505 as a child taken to convent. Anyway, I’m enjoying the water, the sun, the ducks, and the “Me” time. I’m really not concerned about being with just me.
My trip last week revolved around family, lots of people and a special quaint bookstore where I found a perfect surprise. A corner bookstore in Black Mountain, NC where I could have spent a few hours, the same but different from my perch by the lake. And to my surprise, there was a captivating display of the 100 books of the Great American Read. I added two books to my collection of the 100 books–The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon and A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole–plus a fun bookmark.
Have you read either of these?
I plan on finding many other special somethings on a daily basis for the rest of my summer.
What inspires you at home or on vacation?
Your lakeside mornings sound great! I know you’re enjoying that! I have been meaning to read The Confederacy of Dunces, as it is placed in New Orleans and is a city favorite. I love small bookstores with hand-chosen collections. When I went on a 2-week book tour in 2017, I visited small bookshops in 7 cities and added a book from each one! I just read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is a thrilling historical fiction set in 1940’s Barcelona. Enjoy!
Sometimes I find inspiration just walking around.
