This is a different review from what I normally do. I have found a new-to-me author this year. I’ve read some of her contemporary novels: Secret Beach Boyfriend (Book 3 in the Independence Islands Series), Matchmaker’s Best Friend (Book 9 in the Independence Islands Series), and More than a Heartthrob (Book 15 in the Independence Islands Series.) I love her style and encouraging and entertaining stories. As you know, I crave and seek out historical fiction. Great Lakes Light fits perfectly with my genre-likings.

My Review

Ah…another place to add to may travel list: the Great Lakes. The words flowing from Kari Trumbo’s pen sink into the crevasses of my curious brain. The beauty and mystery and sheer power of the lakes inundates the lives of her characters. Three women face their own struggles with nature in their male dominated world of the early 1900s.

When the mores and social whims tell you to step no closer, what do you do with your convictions to step forward to instigate change? I tend to cross the lines an inch or two to test the resistance. On this Great Lake’s journey, that line is guarded by fathers, government, and the culture. Yet, each woman seizes the moment to do her part in a crisis—one involving saving lives.

Thanks, Kari, for a glimpse into the past and the awesome beauty and majesty of the Great Lakes. Five stars!!!
